Design & Development

Overview: 

Instructional design means more than simply designing instruction. It is the basis for identifying problems and implementing solutions. Design and development involves a systematic approach to improving performance or learning outcomes. The purpose of the design and development phase is to plan and select instructional strategies and tools or materials based on measurable objectives.

  • Selects and applies appropriate design and development models.

  • Uses needs assessment and gap analysis information to develop a solution plan.

  • Prepares a learning/performance context analysis for specific learning or performance outcomes.

  • Prepares clear and measurable objective statements.

  • Aligns objectives, instruction and assessment.

  • Applies appropriate rules and principles to the design of instructional materials and performance environments.

  • Applies instructional design strategies that account for individual differences among learners.

  • Specifies appropriate instructional strategies for various categories of learning outcomes.

  • Describes how learners acquire relevant knowledge, skills, and attitudes.

  • Designs courses, programs, curricula, and performance environments.
